Carl Grapentine, who has been the public-address announcer at Michigan Stadium since 2006, will miss his fifth Michigan football home game since 1966 next weekend:
Announced on his Facebook page on Friday evening, Michigan Stadium public-address announcer Carl Grapentine will not be lending his silky smooth voice at the Big House for the Week 1 game against Fresno State. Instead, he will be attending his daughter’s wedding.
*Sarcasm font* #NoFallWeddings didn’t work for this one, boys…(in all seriousness, congratulations to the Grapentine family!)
Instead, public-address announcer for Michigan baseball, hockey and gymnastics — Jason Morris — will step in.
I am excited to share that I will be the PA announcer on August 31st for Michigan Football’s season opener v. Fresno State filling in for Carl Grapentine. I will handle all of the football game action. I attended my first Michigan Football game back in November of 1986. I… pic.twitter.com/DWlAXwoI4z

Thankfully, Grapentine will be back to say, “Baaaaaand, take the field!” and much more for the Week 2 game against Texas.
Grapentine has been the in-stadium announcer for Michigan football games at the Big House since 2006, taking over for the late, great Howard King, who handled all in-game announcements from 1972-2005. This will be only the fifth home game Grapentine has missed since 1966, he said in his Facebook post.
The Michigan Wolverines and Fresno State Bulldogs kickoff under the lights of the Big House next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on NBC and Peacock.
