Michigan looks to make it six wins in a row on Sunday when it travels to Columbus (1:00 p.m., CBS) to face Ohio State.
This is one of those classic conference matchups where the KenPom numbers and the vibes tell a different story. Michigan is 19-5 (11-2) and sits alone in first place at the top of the league. Ohio State is 15-10 (7-7) and is a month removed from staring at a 2-5 league record. The Wolverines are worried about the Big Ten title race, and the Buckeyes are focused on punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Despite the separation in the standings, the two teams are separated by just six spots in KenPom’s current rankings. The Wolverines have outscored league foes by 4.5 points per 100 possessions, but the Buckeyes aren’t far behind at 2.9 points per 100 possessions. The gap in quality is much smaller than the gap in perception.
The Buckeyes have only lost three games at home this calendar year, two by a single possession, and should pose a difficult challenge for a Michigan program hunting for its sixth conference road win.
