Michigan returns to the Crisler Center this weekend with a quick turnaround from Thursday night’s disappointing loss at Minnesota. The Wolverines don’t have time to wallow in their first league defeat as they prepare for Northwestern in a Sunday afternoon tilt (2:00 p.m., BTN).
It’s a matchup of two teams that played overtime thrillers on Thursday night. The Wildcats won theirs with a Nick Martinelli buzzer beater, and Michigan fell short to a 40-footer from Dawson Garcia. It’s also a rematch for Dusty May against the team that knocked him out of last year’s NCAA Tournament and a team whose best player is the son of May’s former high school coach and mentor.
Michigan can’t afford to let one bad loss turn into two, especially if it aspires to compete for the Big Ten title. Meanwhile, Northwestern is scrapping to keep its season on track after some frustrating defeats and has a roster uniquely suited to attack the Wolverines.
