Michigan handled its business early on Sunday, cruising into the holidays with a comfortable 89-58 win over Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Wolverines made 9-of-12 first-half threes to Fort Wayne’s 2-of-17. The result was a game decided by the first media timeout of the second half. The hot start allowed Michigan’s bench to play more minutes than its starters in the closing period and provided the ultimate get-right game before the holidays.
Michigan recorded as many assists (21) as Fort Wayne made baskets and more dunks and layups (25) than Fort Wayne’s total field goals.
Michigan is long past the point of learning something profound in a win like this, but every team in the country goes into an afternoon worried about the alternative. The hot shooting was required to avoid upset scares or nerves on a sleepy, student-less Sunday afternoon in the Crisler Center, and helped take Michigan one step closer to finishing out non-conference play the right way.
