One of Michigan’s 2020 commits has his eyes set on Theo Johnson.
Happy Friday, and welcome in to another Michigan Recruiting Roundup.
Unfortunately the Wolverines are on the road, so that obviously means there won’t be any visitors for Michigan to sway this week. However, there will be a big time visitor in a couple weeks for the Notre Dame game that one Michigan commit is trying to recruit himself. But let’s get to an in-state prospect to start things off.
Local 2021 OL discusses U-M visit and other commits
One of the in-state prospects on hand for the Michigan/Iowa game last weekend was 2021 three-star offensive lineman Davion Weatherspoon . The 6-foot-2, 310-pound center at Harper Woods High School was offered by Michigan back in June, and since receiving that offer, Weatherspoon has been quite high on the program.
“The visit went well,” Weatherspoon told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($). “I got there a little bit late, so I didn’t talk to them that long, but we talk about how my season was going and I talked to both of the 2021 Michigan commits about their seasons was going and (2021 four-star Michigan commit) Giovanni (El-Hadi) was telling me how he wants me to play with him.”
El-Hadi wasn’t the only commit he was able to talk to, as he also spoke with J.J. McCarthy. However, he said he and El-Hadi are “best buds” and “talk all the time,” which is definitely a feather in Michigan’s cap if the Wolverines are truly interested in having him commit.
“Michigan is high on my recruiting list,” Weatherspoon said. “I like the coaches and how they show interest in the recruits.”
Weatherspoon is the No. 655 overall recruit and No. 5 center in the 2021 class, per 247Sports’ composite. It will be interesting to see how he is recruited by the Wolverines moving forward after they lost out on top target Ryan Linthicum. Now it appears the top target at the center position is four-star in-stater Raheem Anderson , but as Jon and I said on the Future Brew podcast this week, Weatherspoon seems to be a backup option.
2020 U-M commit going after top target
Everyone knows the last remaining big target for Michigan in the 2020 class is four-star tight end Theo Johnson . Even the commits know, and one of them is trying to reel him in.
“Dennis says he plans to do his part and recruit the elite pass-catcher to the Wolverines. Many of the other pledges will be there and look to do the same as well,” wrote Marich.
Braiden McGregor has been on campus for every home game, so he will likely be there. And knowing how big of a recruiter Andre Seldon has been, you can imagine he would probably be there recruiting Johnson to Michigan, as well.
Only time will tell what Johnson does, but having all these coaches, players and commits on the same page in recruiting him surely will not hurt the Wolverines’ chances.
U-M offers 2022, 2023 brothers from Kansas
Make no mistake about it, looking ahead to the 2022 class, let alone the 2023 class, is a bit much. But clearly not for college football coaches, as Jim Harbaugh and company sent scholarship offers to 2022 athlete Dasan McCullough and 2023 athlete Daeh McCullough.

— Daeh McCullough (@daeh2023) October 9, 2019
The McCullough brothers are the sons of Deland McCullough, who played running back in college at Miami (OH) back in the ‘90s. He is currently the running backs coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, and coached running backs at Indiana from 2011-16. (Hire him, Harbz).
Dasan is 6-foot-4, 205 pounds and holds other offers from Georgia, USC, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and more. Daeh, meanwhile, is just 6-foot, 168 pounds and has other offers from Kentucky, Rutgers, Maryland and others.
Daeh isn’t ranked at all just yet, but Dasan is the No. 83 overall player in his class, per 247Sports. He doesn’t have a composite score yet, but just by looking at the offers he is piling up as a sophomore, he will probably be a highly ranked prospect on the composite.
That’s it for this week! Come back Monday for more recruiting news!
