BREAKING: Michigan freshman G Dural “Phat Phat” Brooks has entered the transfer portal:
After one season with the Michigan Wolverines , guard Durral “Phat Phat” Brooks has entered the transfer portal.
I’ve loved everything about @umichbball since I was in diapers and that feeling will never change. It’s a special place and I appreciate my teammates, coaches, and every member of the maize n blue community who has supported my growth. Thank you all https://t.co/GNjsVIFhFL

A former Mr. Basketball in the state of Michigan, the Grand Rapids native was initially committed to Michigan under Juwan Howard but re-affirmed his commitment to head coach Dusty May just over a year ago .
Brooks only averaged three minutes per game as a freshman. He occasionally came into games to play energetic defense for a few possessions, but most of his minutes came when Michigan was either blowing out its opponent or getting blown out.
Brooks enters the portal with three seasons of eligibility, but he has very little experience as a collegiate player despite being one of the best players from the state of Michigan. He was Michigan’s only player from the state last season. The only Michigan native on the roster next season will be incoming five-star Trey McKenney .
Here’s a look at who has transferred in and out of Michigan since the season ended:
Players transferring in
- North Carolina G Elliot Cadeau
- Illinois F/C Morez Johnson
- UAB F Yaxel Lendeborg
Players transferring out
- G Justin Pippen – Cal
- G Jace Howard
- F Sam Walters
- G Tre Donaldson – University of Miami
- G Durral Brooks
The news of Brooks entering the portal doesn’t come as a surprise. Yes, he was a childhood fan of the Wolverines, but I didn’t see a path for minutes on him next season with Cadeau transferring in, along with the return of Roddy Gayle Jr., L.J. Cason, and incoming freshmen McKenney and Winters Grady. Not to mention, Nimari Burnett still hasn’t announced what he will be doing next year, so he could be back as well.
We wish Brooks the best of luck, and hopefully he lands somewhere where he can play legit minutes. Stay with Maize N Brew and bookmark our portal tracker to stay up to date on all the latest news.
