Winston is one of several players visiting Michigan in the coming weeks.
Ahead of his official visit this weekend, four-star top-100 defensive back Kainoa Winston listed the Michigan Wolverines in his top four. As first reported by Hayes Fawcett with On3, Michigan was included with Oregon, North Carolina and Penn State rounding out the group.

On the 247 Composite , the Washington, DC, native is rated as the 88th-best prospect in the 2025 class, along with being rated ninth among safeties and first among players from DC.
Michigan has been pursuing Winston aggressively in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Sam Webb with The Michigan Insider ($) reported that defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan visited Winston at Gonzaga College High School and chatted with him for an extended period of time.
”We met for like four hours, talking about school and all that,” the defensive back said. “It was really just getting to know them on more of a personal level, outside of football. We talked about a little bit of football stuff, like schemes there that they’ll run.”
Winston is one of several high school players set to visit Michigan in the coming weeks, and much like baseball, recruiting is all about momentum; if the Wolverines can land a commitment from Winston following his visit, more commitments could come with him, like a dangerous batting order hopping on hanging sliders.
We’ll keep you updated on the recruitment of Winston and other top prospects in what should be a busy recruiting summer for the Wolverines.
