Dusty May has his first high school commit as the head man of Michigan, and it’s a big name in Justin Pippen, the son of former NBA legend and Chicago Bulls forward Scottie Pippen.
Pippen — the 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard from Sierra Canyon (CA) — chose Michigan over his other finalists Cal, Florida, Stanford and Texas A&M. The guard was fresh off an official visit to Michigan this past weekend. He made his decision live to 247Sports .
“The coaches are great to me, they’ve showed me a lot of hospitality,” Pippen said. “They gave me really good pitches. They see me coming in as a player that can impact the floor right away. So I’m excited to get to work.”
Pippen is ranked the No. 62 overall 2024 prospect by 247Sports and the No. 8 player in the state of California. He’s coming off an impressive senior season at Sierra Canyon, where he averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
“I’m a winner,” Pippen said of his game. “I compete on both sides of the floor, and as a teammate, I’m going to push my teammates to be the best they can be.”
Pippen was unranked as a prospect before growing a few inches and jumping up the rankings during the summer and high school basketball season. His brother, Scottie Pippen Jr., played at Vanderbilt and currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Michigan now has two high school newcomers coming in next year in Pippen and three-star point guard Durral Brooks. The Wolverine’s roster next season will look much different, as several players have hit the portal from last year’s Juwan Howard-coached team, including point guard Dug McDaniel , center Tarris Reed and forward Terrance Williams.
