Great news for former Michigan Wolverines and current Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who has been fully cleared for football activity after suffering a fractured fibula and tibia against the Dallas Cowboys last season:
Former Michigan Wolverine Aidan Hutchinson has made a mark in the NFL in a short period of time. After being drafted by the Detroit Lions back in 2022, Hutchinson has been a stud — when healthy.
Hutchinson suffered a nasty fractured left fibula and tibia against the Dallas Cowboys early last year and missed the rest of the season. It is not only unfortunate he missed most of the season, but he was on pace to set career-highs in essentially all statistical categories.
The crazy thing is that Hutchinson led the Lions in sacks (7.5) for all of last season…his injury happened in Week 6. The next closest player had four (Za’Darius Smith). Needless to say, the pass rush was pretty weak for Detroit after Hutchinson’s injury.
But Hutchinson announced some great news on Thursday to local reporters — he is now fully cleared to participate in all football activities.

Hutchinson is no stranger to major injuries. Back in 2020 for the Wolverines, he suffered a season-ending right ankle fracture against Indiana. His injury in college may have even been worse, according to multiple reports last fall.
“A close member of (Hutchinson) told me the following. Even though it looked bad, it’s less of an injury than he suffered in college. Pretty soon he will be bionic. When we make it to the Super Bowl, he will be ready to go,” 97.1’s Mike Stone wrote on social media.
“A source close to Hutchinson told The Detroit News on Sunday that the injury appears less severe than a worst-case scenario and Hutchinson might be able to return for the Super Bowl, should the Lions make it,” The Detroit News’ Richard Silva and Nolan Bianchi wrote at the time.
Regardless, all that is behind us now, and Hutchinson is ready to get back to where he was at a season ago prior to his injury. The Lions start their season on Sept. 7 in Green Bay to take on the Packers, so it will be awesome to see Hutch back in action in a great NFC North rivalry game to start the season.
