On Friday night, former Michigan staff member Connor Stalions made his head coaching debut.
Stalions, the alleged mastermind behind Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal, is currently the interim head coach for Detroit Mumford High School. He’s filling in for William McMichael, who suffered a “mild stroke” recently.
Unfortunately for Stalions, his debut as the interim coach for Mumford went about as bad as you could expect.
Mumford suffered a 60-0 loss to Flint Hamady, dropping to 0-2 on the season.
Despite how brutal this loss must have been for Stalions and the program, he’s not ready to give up hope. In fact, he’s determined to improve the team’s culture.
“I came to Mumford because I wanted to help flip the culture,” Stalions told The Detroit News . “They are not used to winning, and I wanted to help show these guys the actual process of what it’s going to take to win, because they eventually will win, and for me that’s more gratifying than going to a program that’s already winning. I’d rather have 15 guys who love the process of football than 30 guys where they’re kind of halfway in and halfway out, because they’re driving back the 15 guys who are in.”
Stalions was hired by Mumford to be the team’s defensive coordinator. McMichael told ESPN that the “kids at Mumford High School love him.”
We’ll see if Stalions can lead Mumford to a bounce-back win next week.
