Former Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson is going to get an interesting education this year, if nothing else. The free agent is set to work out for John Harbaugh, brother of his college head coach Jim Harbaugh, and the Baltimore Ravens.
Baltimore fields one of the most unique offenses in the NFL, gearing things completely to the skill set of reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. With Robert Griffin III and former Penn State star Trace McSorley filling out the quarterback depth chart, the team is clearly focused on having athletic quarterbacks who can attempt to execute what Jackson does.
Patterson isn’t that level athlete, though he did move around a bit during his college career. Still, the opportunity to work with Harbaugh, offensive coordinator Greg Roman, and the Ravens staff would be a good one for any young quarterback. Per Ian Rapoport, he’s working out for the team this morning as a potential practice squad edition.
The Baltimore Ravens carried four quarterbacks during training camp. Former Utah QB Tyler Huntley was on the 80-man roster, and signed with the team’s practice squad after being cut earlier this month.

Shea Patterson was one of the more notable undrafted players this past spring, after a solid if unspectacular college career. He began his career as a vaunted recruit for Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss, and looked the part for two years in Oxford.
His sophomore year, in which he threw for 2,259 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in just seven games was probably his most impressive year in college football. After Freeze’s ouster, he transferred up to Michigan, where he had some success, but struggled in big games and was generally indicative of the unfulfilled hype and potential of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure there thus far.
In May, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs , where he was able to train alongside Patrick Mahomes. That was relatively short-lived; he was waived by the team in July.
