After previously being committed to Michigan for nearly a calendar year, 2025 four-star quarterback Carter Smith has flipped to the Wisconsin Badgers , he announced on social media.

Smith initially committed to Michigan last November , but decommitted a few weeks ago in the midst of Michigan’s widely-reported and highly-publicized push for five-star Bryce Underwood .

Smith and his family haven’t said on the record that Underwood’s recruitment was the reasoning behind his flip, but you’d be naive to think that didn’t play a factor. I don’t blame Smith for switching either; people change jobs all the time when they don’t feel valued, and/or someone better comes along to potentially take their place.

Ultimately, this is the cost of doing business in today’s world with NIL and the transfer portal.
