With No. 8 Michigan State (26-5, 17-3 Big Ten) edging out No. 17 Michigan (22-0, 14-5) for the Big Ten regular season title on Thursday and securing the first-seed in the upcoming conference tournament on Friday, the Spartans didn’t have anything to prove on Sunday. Sure, it was senior night, the last home and regular season game of the year, but Michigan State didn’t have to dominate to prove its prowess. For the Wolverines, they desperately needed a win and a boost heading into Indianapolis, and a top-10 rivalry win and senior-night spoiler on the road would have given them plenty of momentum.
