In recent weeks the Michigan Wolverines have seen a number of players and coaches depart the team after its run to a national title.
The majority of the coaching staff has been revamped after head coach Jim Harbaugh left to become head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. His decision to leave the program not only resulted in the loss of coaches, but also key players like safety Keon Sabb.
Sabb’s decision to leave the Wolverines for the Alabama Crimson Tide spurred some rumors that star defensive back Will Johnson could be next.
Earlier this week, Johnson allegedly tweeted at Domani Jackson and Sabb after their transfers to Alabama. He named both players and sent the eyeball emoji with a shrug before deleting the message.
Wolverines fans can breath easy, though, as Johnson’s father made it clear his son is not transferring – at least not to Alabama.
“Alabama… As William, put it to me, ALL CAP,” Deon Johnson, Will’s father said via EJ Holland of On3’s The Wolverine .
Johnson and the rest of the Wolverines defense will be playing under new leadership during the 2024 season. Former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter left to become the new defensive coordinator of the Chargers under Jim Harbaugh.
New Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore hired longtime NFL defensive coordinator Don ‘Wink’ Martindale to lead the Wolverines’ defense this year.
