It’s going to be a far fall for the Michigan Wolverines after winning the national championship last season. Well, at least that’s what ESPN’s Football Power Index projects…
According to the FPI , Year 1 of the Sherrone Moore era won’t be like the last few under Jim Harbaugh. With Big Blue predicted to go 8-4 in the regular season and teeter right on the verge of a Playoff berth.
If the FPI’s prediction holds true, that would place Michigan fourth in the Big Ten. Which would be quite the regression from last year’s undefeated campaign that saw the Wolverines win it all.
That’s expected to a degree though given the amount of talent the program lost to the NFL, their unproven head coach and the new blood entering the conference.
ESPN has Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State, Notre Dame , Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri and Florida State all finishing ahead of UM. With LSU, Texas A&M, Clemson and Ole Miss right behind them.
Earning the Wolverines a Playoff spot in his first year as full-time head coach would be great step for Moore as he attempts to put his own stamp on Michigan’s program.
We’ll see how the team fares over its first four televised games against Fresno State, UT, Arkansas State and USC.
