Michigan has some juice and energy after defeating rival Michigan State, but next up is No. 1 Oregon. Davis Warren says “Bring ‘em on.”
The Michigan Wolverines got their season back on track Saturday night with their first win since Sept 28. Michigan’s 24-17 win over the Michigan State Spartans has them at 5-3 on the year with the No. 1 Oregon Ducks (8-0) next on the schedule.
Michigan quarterback Davis Warren was asked if the win over Michigan State is giving the team juice and momentum heading into the Oregon matchup next Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
“Yeah, no doubt,” Warren said.
The prep for Oregon has already been underway. Warren noted that because Oregon played Michigan State earlier this month, Michigan watched film from that game. Further, Warren said during Michigan’s bye week they watched some of Oregon.
Warren played with poise against Michigan State, going 13-of-19 for 123 yards with one touchdown. He also showed poise and confidence when speaking about the top-ranked Ducks coming to Ann Arbor next Saturday.
“Excited. Good. We like that. Bring ‘em on. Bring the number one team in here. I know we can handle it,” Warren said. “We’re more than capable of taking these guys on.”
No one expects Michigan to beat Oregon, but a win would represent a remarkable turnaround compared to two consecutive ugly road losses against Washington and Illinois.
“I think it’s just a really exciting opportunity for us. I know we’re gonna attack it the same way we attacked this week. We’re gonna get even better,” Warren said. “We’re gonna be better as a team next week and we’re gonna bring our best shot at them.”
While Davis Warren isn’t former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Warren saying “bring ‘em on” about Oregon is McCarthy-esque and the type of mindset required from any quarterback who wants to be a leader. If the proverbial mantra of “you are what you think” is indeed true, then why not have a quarterback dreaming big and trying to make those dreams come true?
If this college football season that’s featured an abundance of upsets has taught us anything it’s to expect the unexpected. Oregon vs. Michigan — bring it on.
