Barstool founder and Michigan alum Dave Portnoy is featured in Netflix’s new “Untold: Sign Stealer” documentary on Connor Stalions.
In one important clip, Portnoy appears to confirm Stalions was on the Central Michigan sideline during a 2023 game at Michigan to illegally obtain signals.
Stalions denies the man in the hat and sunglasses on CMU’s sideline was him and can be seen in the documentary saying he “can’t recall” if he was at the game or not.
However, Portnoy’s answer in the clip below would suggest the former Michigan analyst is lying.
“Well, I know the answer to that because he told me,” Portnoy can be seen saying before taking a pause. “Yeah, that was Connor on the sidelines. That was Connor on the sidelines.”
Connor Stalions: I don’t recall attending a specific game
Dave Portnoy: Yeah that was Connor on the sidelines… he told me

Seems straightforward, right? Well, not to Portnoy, who is claiming that the “magic of editing ” makes it seem like he was confirming the man was Stalions.
Portnoy maintained his innocence in another tweet responding to an Ohio State supporter.
“@stoolpresidente said “Yes that was Connor Stallions [sic], he told me he was on the CMU sideline” what are we even doing? #MichiganCheated,” said the OSU fan.
“Except I never said that,” Portnoy responded .
During the documentary, Stalions admits to deciphering opponents’ signals, but denies he did so illegally and claims whatever actions he took were within the NCAA rules.
“I don’t regret a thing, and I would do the same thing over again,” Stalions says .
