We’re less than two weeks away from Michigan and Alabama facing off in one College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
The top-ranked Wolverines are currently slight favorites over the SEC champion Crimson Tide, though there have been plenty of bettors wagering on the underdogs from Tuscaloosa.
However, one prominent gambler, Billy Walters , is reportedly leaning toward Michigan, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on Monday.
I like Alabama, but I have talked to a few pretty smart and objective people who aren’t necessarily on board. I hate, for somebody who doesn’t gamble, to quote one of the most famous gamblers in the world on how he saw the game. But I interviewed Billy Walters the other night, remember the book a couple of months ago with all the Phil Mickelson bets, he’s considered the preeminent guy in the entire country.
I asked him point blank about the game, he said the right team’s favored and I tried to push him and you could tell he’s obviously saving that for his lollapalooza next week for his clients.
Finebaum added that Walters said there are “a couple of things about the game that I just don’t like,” including the grass surface at the Rose Bowl, which “may negate some of the speed of Alabama.”
We’ll see if Walters is on the right track, or if much of the betting public will be right about the Tide come Jan. 1.
