Michigan is getting the first major test of its national title defense against Texas on Saturday, and thus far, the Wolverines are failing miserably.
No. 9 Michigan is down 24-3 at halftime in Ann Arbor to the fourth-ranked Longhorns. Texas has outgained the Maize and Blue 279-88, with quarterback Quinn Ewers leading the way, completing 18-of-26 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns.
Down 14-3 late in the second quarter, the Wolverines shot themselves in the foot twice, as turnovers on back-to-back possessions led to 10 Texas points.
On social media, the commentary has not been kind to the home team.
“Texas beating the BRAKES off Michigan,” said ESPN’s Damien Woody.
“Texas is very good. Michigan is a shell of the program it was last year for all the obvious reasons. This game was very predictable!” added USA TODAY’s Dan Wolken.
“The fact we didn’t go for a QB in the portal is the first major red flag of the Sherrone Moore era,” said a Michigan fan.
“Sherrone Moore won’t last very long at Michigan like this. Losing today is okay, Texas is better. But getting blown out at home, out schemed and just being unprepared is not okay,” another commenter chimed in.
“No way some of y’all watched Michigan struggle last week and thought they would beat Texas,” a fifth person added.
Texas was favored to win this game on the road, but Michigan fans were understandably hoping to not be down three touchdowns at halftime.
The Wolverines have struggled immensely on offense, something that has to change in the second half if they want to make things interesting.
