Nick Saban has been an excellent addition to the College GameDay panel in his first season away from coaching.
Saban has shown off his football acumen and personality while working alongside Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee on a weekly basis. On Saturday, Saban had some fun at Howard’s expense, chiding the former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner for his apparent bias toward his alma mater. When Howard picked the Wolverines to beat Illinois, Saban pounced.
“Have you ever picked against Michigan?” he asked .
Howard’s pick wound up being way off, as the Maize and Blue fell 21-7 to the Illini and dropped to 4-3 on the season.
To be fair, Saban went with his former program, Alabama, in their rivalry matchup with Tennessee, and also got burned. The Tide lost 24-17 and fell to 5-2.
Still, there were more than a few folks who enjoyed the legendary coach calling out Howard.
“No way, you could have looked at [Michigan] team and the way they’ve been playing and look at Illinois and say ‘[Michigan] got this one,’” said former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones.
“How does he get away with being so unbelievably biased? I’m starting to like Saban a lot more these days,” another person added.
“Clock him coach!” a third person tweeted.
“You absolutely love to see it,” a fourth person chimed in.
“He’s never picked against them I’m with Saban,” said a fifth commenter.
Next week, both Michigan and Alabama have tough games, with the Wolverines playing rival Michigan State and the Crimson Tide facing Missouri.
We’re going to guess that Howard and Saban won’t be picking the Spartans and Tigers.
