Colin Cowherd isn’t on the J.J. McCarthy bandwagon heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.
He thinks McCarthy is being overhyped throughout this process and recently compared him to a quarterback who has struggled mightily in the NFL.
“I think he’s Mitch Trubisky with a better college coach,” Cowherd said . “He’s mobile, a nice kid, but his ball dies. He misses easy stuff. Unless his feet are pointed in the right direction, and he’s set, got time, and can look down his receiver, he’s not that accurate consistently.”
Despite Cowherd’s reservations, it’s still highly likely that McCarthy is picked in the first round of the draft on Thursday. Heck, he may go inside the top 15 of the first round.
He’s fresh off leading Michigan to a College Football Playoff National Championship and was with the program for three seasons. He finished the 2023 season with 2,991 yards through the air, 22 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.

McCarthy will have a big chance to prove Cowherd wrong once he gets to work with his new NFL team this spring and summer.
You can watch the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
