After one season with the Michigan Wolverines , center Yulia Grabovskaia is entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.
Grabovskaia was the lone center on Michigan’s roster, averaging 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 13.5 minutes per game. With the Wolverines starting five guards this past season, the Russian center was often one of the first players off the bench.
She was a key rebounder and rim protector, but she wasn’t the most reliable around the basket, making less than 50 percent of her shots. To be frank, I was never super impressed by her when watching the team this season — the more I watched, the more it made sense why she didn’t start.
This will likely mean more minutes for Te’Yala Delfosse and Aaiyanna Dunbar, with Delfosse earning more minutes off the bench as the season went along. Incoming forward Ciara Byars is 6-foot-2 and could earn some frontcourt minutes. I would also expect Michigan to pursue another center in the transfer portal, considering the lack of size currently on the roster.
The Wolverines ended the season with a 23-11 record, placing tied for fifth in the Big Ten and earning an NCAA Tournament bid for the eighth consecutive season (excluding the 2019-20 season when the tournament was canceled).
The future of the program remains bright , so stay with Maize n Brew for updates throughout the offseason.
