Is a big change coming to Michigan’s offense in 2025? Bryce Underwood thinks so:
There’s been much speculation about what Michigan’s offense will look like schematically in 2025. With new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey in the fold, coming off successful years at North Carolina, Michigan’s offense is likely to be more of a spread-oriented offense, albeit a balanced one.
In an interview with Sam Webb , true freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood was asked about how Michigan’s passing offense may look this season after struggling mightily a season ago.
”Honestly, it’s going to be a big difference, a big change from what everybody has seen from Michigan football,” Underwood said.
There have been various hints made throughout the offseason that Michigan will be slinging it more this season. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said that Michigan has added more deep shots to the playbook and created some new pass concepts. Wide receiver Donaven McCulley noted that Chip Lindsey’s vision is fast-paced and that they’re going to get the ball downfield.
Lindsey has said he wants Michigan to have the “most physical and explosive offense in the country.”
“You have to be able to run the football when you want to do it,” Lindsey said in February. “At the same time, I want to create explosive plays. To do that, you have to throw it down the field.”
Between now and the start of the season, Underwood made it clear it’ll be important for him to study film every day. Underwood wants to learn the ins and outs of Michigan’s offense as well as fine-tune what he must improve at.
“Just me staying in the film room, paying attention to everything I need to, not missing a read when it comes to pass progressions, not missing a fake, not missing a handoff,” Underwood said. “Just me being the best me I can possibly be.”
Underwood still has to win the starting quarterback competition over players such as Mikey Keene, Jake Garcia, and Jadyn Davis. However, if Underwood does wind up being QB1, all indications point to Michigan’s offense being quarterback-friendly.
