Tre Donaldson announced he was entering the transfer portal earlier this week after helping Michigan reach the Sweet 16.
Donaldson, who spent his first two collegiate seasons playing for Auburn, averaged 11.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the Wolverines in 2024-25. The 6-foot-3 floor general was instrumental in Michigan’s run to the Big Ten Tournament title, including scoring the game-winning basket on a length-of-the-court drive in the final seconds to beat Maryland in the semifinals.
Donaldson, who has one more year of eligibility remaining, was not a free agent for very long. On Thursday, the Florida native announced he would be transferring to Miami for his final season.
“Florida boy 🌴🙌🌪️ @caneshoops @nightrydaselite @nightryda1 ,” Donaldson wrote on Instagram.
Donaldson is the second major Big Ten transfer pickup this week for Miami and new head coach Jai Lucas. On Wednesday, former Indiana big man Malik Reneau announced he was joining the Hurricanes.
Prior to college, Donaldson was a high school football star in addition to a standout hoops player. He originally committed to Auburn for both sports before focusing solely on basketball.
After playing in 32 games off the bench for the Tigers in 2022-23, Donaldson made 10 starts and appeared in 35 contests as a sophomore, averaging 6.7 points and 3.2 assists per game.
In his lone season in Ann Arbor, Donaldson scored in double-figures 25 times, including a 21-point effort in a win over Penn State and a 20-point outing in a victory over UCLA.
He also scored 36 points and dished out 22 assists in Michigan’s three Big Ten Tournament games before hitting a clutch shot to help the Wolverines outlast UC San Diego in the first round of the Big Dance.
With Donaldson and Reneau, Miami has a solid foundation as it looks to get back to the NCAA Tournament after a disappointing 2024-25 season.
