We now know when the Michigan Wolverines will be playing their Big Ten opponents, with the men’s and women’s basketball schedules being announced on Big Ten Network on Thursday afternoon.
Without further ado, here is the complete conference schedule for the men’s and women’s teams, with some analysis and a recap of the non-conference schedules as a refresher.
Conference schedule
We already knew before this broadcast the men’s team would face Michigan State , Purdue and Rutgers twice from an announcement in May . Here’s the rest of the Big Ten slate for both teams.
(If not otherwise noted, the game is in Ann Arbor)

- Wisconsin (Dec. 3 at Wisconsin)
- Iowa (Dec. 7)
- USC (Jan. 4 at USC)
- UCLA (Jan. 7 at UCLA)
- Washington (Jan. 12)
- Minnesota (Jan. 16 at Minnesota)
- Northwestern (Jan. 19)
- Purdue (Jan. 24 at Purdue)
- Penn State (Jan. 27)
- Rutgers (Feb. 1 at Rutgers)
- Oregon (Feb. 5)
- Indiana (Feb. 8 at Indiana)
- Purdue (Feb. 11)
- Ohio State (Feb. 16 at Ohio State)
- Michigan State (Feb. 21)
- Nebraska (Feb. 24 at Nebraska)
- Rutgers (Feb. 27)
- Illinois (March 2)
- Maryland (March 5)
- Michigan State (March 9 at Michigan State)
Quick thoughts
- I do like that the Wolverines close the season with a rival in Michigan State. The Breslin Center is never an easy place to play, but three home games leading up to that is a small advantage for the stretch run
- Michigan makes its California trip in early January during winter break. There’s never an ideal time to make that trip, but that’s as good a time as any with players not having to attend class.
- That stretch to start out February is tough on paper, and smack dab in the middle of the month is the Wolverines’ two biggest rivals (Ohio State, Michigan State) in five days.
- The Wolverines don’t have to travel to Washington or Oregon this year, which is a small advantage since that lengthy travel took take a toll in a long season.
- Michigan kicks off conference play in one of the most underrated environments in the Big Ten. The Wolverines have struggled against the Badgers at the Kohl Center in recent years.
Women’s schedule

- Northwestern (Dec. 8)
- USC (Dec. 29 at USC)
- UCLA (Jan. 1 at UCLA)
- Ohio State (Jan. 8)
- Purdue (Jan. 11 at Purdue)
- Washington (Jan. 15)
- Rutgers (Jan. 18)
- Minnesota (Jan. 22 at Minnesota)
- Michigan State (Jan. 25)
- Wisconsin (Jan. 29 at Wisconsin)
- Oregon (Feb. 2)
- Nebraska (Feb. 6 at Nebraska)
- Michigan State (Feb. 9 at MSU)
- Indiana (Feb. 12)
- Maryland (Feb. 17 at Maryland)
- Penn State (Feb. 22)
- Iowa (Feb. 26)
- Illinois (March 2 at Illinois)
Quick thoughts
- Having three of Michigan’s last five games being at home is a nice advantage.
- Like the men’s team, the women’s team makes the California trip during winter break, with a matchup with UCLA on New Year’s Day.
- While the Hawkeyes lost Caitlin Clark, they still return a lot of talented players, but Michigan only has to play them once (Feb. 26 at home).
- Aside from Iowa, the two other teams to finish top-three in the conference last season were Ohio State and Indiana. Michigan only plays those teams once each, with Ohio State being one of the first conference matchups (Jan. 8) and the Indiana game coming a month later (Feb. 12).
- On paper, this seems like a pretty balanced schedule, a good thing for a Michigan squad full of new faces. Obviously we don’t know exactly how the conference will play out, but from the looks of it, there’s not really a gauntlet for this team like there is on the men’s side.
