The 2025 prospect could soon be on the move, according to an expert prediction from Steve Wiltfong of On3.
According to a recent report from Steve Wiltfong of On3 , one of Michigan’s highly-rated four-star safety commits could be on the move once again.
Ivan Taylor, the No. 60 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, is now projected to flip his commitment from the Wolverines to Alabama.
This potential flip stings for Michigan, as the Wolverines had successfully flipped Taylor from Notre Dame over the summer, edging out Alabama at that time. According to the 247Sports Composite, Taylor ranks as the No. 7 safety and No. 9 prospect out of Florida. The Winter Garden (FL) West Orange standout is currently the Wolverines’ second-highest-rated commit for 2025, but unless there’s a change of heart, he appears headed for Tuscaloosa.
Taylor’s initial decision to commit to Michigan stemmed largely from how the Wolverines planned to utilize his skill set. Speaking with the Michigan Insider following his commitment, he opened up about the discussion, saying:
“I like Coach Wink, I like Coach Morgan, and I like Coach Moore,” Taylor said. “I think they’re all great people and it was a really good time on the official visit getting to know them and getting to know their families as well.”
“They said (I’d play) the free safety position. A lot of colleges have been saying nickel, and I think they’re really the first ones to say free safety.”
However, Taylor has been reportedly leaning toward Alabama for several weeks now, although the discussion was less intense at that time. Now, Alabama’s interest appears much stronger as it looks to add to its No. 1 2025 recruiting class ahead of national signing day.
For Michigan fans, there’s some consolation in the team’s remaining top-tier secondary class, which includes highly ranked commitments from Shamari Earls, Jayden Sanders, and Kainoa Winston. While Michigan will need to work hard to retain all three, the program has demonstrated its commitment to securing top talent.
While it’s not final yet, signs point to Taylor flipping to Alabama soon. If he does, he’ll be the second top-100 recruit to decommit from Michigan in the 2025 class, following defensive lineman Nate Marshall’s recent flip to Auburn . How Sherrone Moore and the Michigan staff respond to these recruiting challenges will be crucial in the coming months.
