As the football recruiting cycle heats up, commitment flips are bounds to happen. Here are 5 players currently committed to other schools that the Wolverines could flip in the 2026 class:
With the definition of “commitment” growing more and more loosely defined in this NIL-centric era, let’s take a look at a few football recruits in the 2026 class that the Michigan Wolverines could flip in the coming months.
Shadarius Toodle
An Auburn commit from Mobile, Alabama, Toodle is a four-star linebacker and the No. 164 player in the 2026 class. Despite his pledge to the Tigers, he is taking numerous official visits coming up, including Michigan the weekend of May 30. This follows an in-home visit by linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary on April 18.
“Outside of relationships, I am also looking at how coaches coach, their player development, who wins championships and academics moving forward,” Toodle told On3 .
The Wolverines excel in all three of those areas, and while it may seem far-fetched to flip Toodle from his home state, his continued interest in Michigan show it’s more possible than one would think.
Michigan has yet to land a linebacker in 2026, and Toodle would be a great first addition to the position group.
Samu Moala
As of right now, Moala is committed to Texas A&M . However, the four-star California edge rusher and No. 241 player in the nation is not completely finished with his recruitment. According to On3 , Moala is expected to visit Michigan, Notre Dame , Texas, UCLA and USC in the coming weeks.
“Those schools reach out about once a week or so to check on me. I am just keeping the connections with coaches right now. Those schools are showing interest in me, so I will take some visits and see what it is like at those schools,” Moala said.
Michigan already holds a commitment from 2026 three-star edge rusher Tariq Boney , but continues to recruit a handful of others in the class. We’ll see if the Wolverines can make up any ground in Moala’s recruitment.
Shavar Young Jr.
Young is a four-star cornerback from Knoxville, Tennessee and committed to Clemson last August. He reaffirmed his interest in the Tigers a few months ago.
However, defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan has proven he is never out of the race. Remember, Morgan successfully flipped Jordan Young from Clemson, Shamari Earls from Georgia and Elijah Dotson from Pittsburgh in the 2025 cycle alone.
Nothing is certain these days until a player enrolls at the university, and if there is anyone who can poach Young away from Clemson, it’s Morgan.
Jordan Campbell
The Opa Locka, Florida four-star has been committed to Miami since Nov. 2023. However, he also played host to Jean-Mary this January and posted this picture on social media:

Much like Toodle, Campbell could form the foundation for the 2026 linebackers group. Miami has been a tumultuous program of late, with three different head coaches since 2018 and a 22-16 record in the Mario Cristobal era.
Michigan is also not the lone candidate to flip Campbell, with other schools like Auburn and Nebraska in the mix.
Chaston Smith
Smith, a four-star cornerback from Chattanooga, Tennessee, committed to Notre Dame last December. However, Morgan is not giving up just yet and even visited Smith’s home at the end of January.
The Wolverines have four-star cornerback Brody Jennings, but there’s no question they are wanting to get a couple more guys onboard in the 2026 class. Stealing a guy away from the Fighting Irish would be the cherry on top.
