247Sports recently released a list of 11 transfer portal players to watch for in 2025, and two new Michigan Wolverines made the list:
With the excitement of the 2025 recruiting class and Ty Haywood’s recent commitment, let’s not forget the strides Sherrone Moore has made in the transfer portal. Michigan has brought in a few immediate impact players, along with some guys that will be rotational pieces that could work their up the depth chart. And that is still with a spring portal window coming up in April.
In the meantime, 247Sports recently released an article highlighting 11 transfer players as good fits on their new teams, and the list includes two new Wolverines:
RB Justice Haynes
The Buford, Georgia native split time for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2024. He recorded 79 carries for 448 yards and seven touchdowns while often playing second fiddle to Jam Miller. Haynes was also at the disadvantage of splitting carries with quarterback Jalen Milroe.
Now, he will have more time to shine in Ann Arbor. Haynes seems like a perfect fit in Michigan’s run scheme that prioritizes physicality and wearing down defenses. Assuming Jordan Marshall sees plenty of touches, Haynes is likely in for another timeshare.
However, as we’ve seen over the years, this bodes well for the Wolverines’ rushing attack. At its core, this is a smash mouth, dominate-the-line-of-scrimmage team. Haynes runs with a violent intentions, while also being a dangerous receiving option out of the backfield.
DL Tré Williams
With key interior defensive line departures in Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant , the 6-foot-2, 315-pound Williams should fill a key void in the middle. While he only made four starts in his Clemson career, Williams tallied four sacks, three fumble recoveries and two pass deflections.
Given Michigan’s success at recruiting and developing defensive linemen over the years, there is no reason to not be optimistic about Williams’ ceiling. He is surprising quick for a guy his size and will benefit from a fierce pass rush group including Derrick Moore, TJ Guy and Cam Brandt. And gargantuan guy like Williams can free up space for those edge defenders to pin their ears back and get after the quarterback.
Fellow graduate transfer Damon Payne Jr. should also make an immediate impact, but Williams will undoubtedly play a big role in 2025.
