Ron Bellamy just landed one of his top targets at the wide receiver position in the 2026 class, as four-star Travis Johnson announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines on the Fourth of July.

At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Johnson hails from Chesapeake, Virginia and plays high school football at Oscar Smith High School. The Wolverines offered Johnson a scholarship back in Jan. 2024 and he visited Ann Arbor numerous times throughout the process, including his official visit the weekend of June 13.
In addition to his tight bond with Bellamy, head coach Sherrone Moore also played a crucial role in Johnson committing to Michigan.
“(Moore) said Michigan doesn’t just want me, they need me,” Johnson told On3’s EJ Holland ($) after the official visit. “That was definitely a point everything was making with me all weekend. It definitely moved the needle with me a lot.
“They have the culture, the development and they win.”
247Sports’ Andrew Ivins scouted Johnson last month and had this to write about him:
Well-rounded wide receiver with the size, speed and focus to emerge as a trusted option at the Power Four level. Height and bounce suggest that he’s destined to play on the outside, but is sudden and quick enough to win from an interior alignment with his slick route running. Attacks cushion with good surge off the line and can reach a top gear before changing course with full-tilt cuts. Might not be a true power forward at the catch point, but can play above shoulder pads with his timing and body control. Will shed a tackle or two with the ball in his hands and has surprising agility in tight quarters for someone of his stature. Missed time as a junior due to injury, but still finished the season with over 1,000 receiving yards before turning heads at the OT7 Finals summer before senior year. Rather narrow in the shoulders for a pass catcher that’s verified at over 6-foot-3, but projects as a potential impact player on Saturdays that will work for his quarterbacks. Mature game could have him in the lineup sooner rather than later.
Other than Michigan, Johnson also had legitimate interest in Penn State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia Tech.
The Wolverines now have 20 commits in their 2026 class, which ranks No. 7 overall on the 247Sports composite. Johnson is the third wide receiver to commit to the class, joining a pair of Texas natives in four-star Zion Robinson and three-star Jaylen Pile.
Johnson is ranked No. 3 in the state of Virginia, No. 21 at the wide receiver position and No. 144 overall in the 2026 class, per the composite. He compiled 1,044 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior in 2024, according to his Hudl highlights, which you can check out in the video below.
