The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder hails from Billings, Montana and has been a top target for Steve Casula and company throughout this recruiting cycle. Ludwig was offered by Michigan back in June 2024 and has taken multiple visits throughout his recruitment. His most recent trip to Ann Arbor was this spring, where he got to meet fellow Big Sky country native and NFL first-round pick Colston Loveland.
“I got to see (Loveland) and spend some time with him and got to meet his family,” Ludwig told 247Sports . “His mom moved to Montana, which was pretty cool. I spent time with them and Colston and I got to talk with him a little about being from Idaho (where Ludwig lived before moving to Montana) and how he pushed himself to be the best he can be. Just watching him, growing up and I’m truly trying to follow his journey and do the same thing here in Montana. He put the spotlight on Idaho, which was awesome.”
Much like Loveland back when he was in high school, Ludwig is a multi-sport athlete, as he also competes in basketball, wrestling, and track and field at Billings West High School. On the gridiron, Ludwig compiled 53 receptions for 822 yards and four touchdowns last fall. He also had 35 rush attempts for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
247Sports’ Greg Biggins scouted Ludwig back in March and had this to say about him:
Ludwig is arguably the best prospect to come out of the Big Sky State in the last decade if not longer. He’s a two-way player who focused more on tight end as a junior and that’s where we see him in college as well. He’s a productive player who can dominate as an in-line blocker or as a pass catching receiver down the field. He has the physical traits that translate well to the next level to go with the on-field production. He’s a well built 6-4, 230 pounds with an 80”+ wing span with huge hands and can run. He’s natural with his hands, catches the ball well through contact and has the bounce to jump over linebackers and defensive backs. He has the positional versatility to line up all over the field including as an h-back and shows off the kind of all around game that should allow him to be a real difference maker. He projects as a high Power 4 prospect and someone with a definite NFL ceiling to him.
Now with Ludwig in the fold, the Wolverines are up to six commitments in the 2026 class. He joins four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, four-star cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star edge rusher Tariq Boney and three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile.
Outside of the Wolverines, Ludwig also held offers from schools like Georgia, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Texas, Wisconsin and more.
Ludwig is ranked No. 1 in the state of Montana, No. 11 at the tight end position and No. 220 overall in his class on the 247Sports composite. Check out some of his junior year highlights down below.
