JUST IN: Michigan cornerback Will Johnson has been selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals:
Former Michigan Wolverines cornerback Will Johnson has been selected by the Arizona Cardinals at No. 47 overall in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft .
Johnson is a 6-foot-2, 194-pound lockdown corner who put together one of the most impressive careers by a defensive back in Michigan history. He excelled in this Baltimore Ravens-style, zone blitz defense, but has proven himself as a phenomenal man-to-man and press coverage corner.
Johnson played in 32 games for the Wolverines and had more pick-sixes (3) than touchdowns allowed (2). His quick feet, fluid hips, closing speed, and anticipation skills will make him a valuable and versatile piece in the NFL for years to come.
The Detroit native was a first-team All-American in 2023, and a second-team All-American and a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist in 2024 despite missing time with a toe injury. Johnson also won Defensive MVP honors for the 2023 National Championship, highlighted by his interception to start the second half.
Despite his fall, Johnson is still one of the top corners in this draft and should quickly earn the admiration of Arizona fans.
No matter the opponent, Johnson ran with the best of them and has strong tape against current and future NFL wide receivers. While injuries have been a concern, Johnson has the ceiling of an All-Pro cornerback in the NFL when he’s healthy.
