JUST IN: Michigan TE Colston Loveland was drafted by the Chicago Bears at pick No. 10 in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft! STORY:
With the 10th pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft , the Chicago Bears selected Michigan Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland on Thursday night.
Loveland came to Michigan as a four-star recruit in the 2022 class. It took him a little bit to get on the field his first year in Ann Arbor, but he made huge contributions against Ohio State and Purdue (Big Ten Championship) with a touchdown in each game. He also saw significant snaps in the College Football Playoff loss to TCU with Luke Schoonmaker dealing with an injury.

He took a step forward as a sophomore in 2023, catching 45 passes for 649 yards and four touchdowns. Loveland was named a First-Team All-Big Ten player by the coaches and a Second-Team player by the media.
This past season — for better or worse — Loveland was the go-to guy for Michigan through the air. Playing in 10 games, he led the team in receptions (56), yards (582) and touchdowns (five). He also set the record at the University of Michigan for most receptions by a tight end in a single season in the win over Northwestern. To say he finished his college career strong would be an understatement.
However, that injury that plagued him this past season was a pretty significant one. Loveland suffered a Type V AC joint dislocation, an injury that usually requires surgery and has a recovery timeline of 4-6 months. The crazy part is he sustained that injury in Week 3 and he continued to play through it until that aforementioned Northwestern game the week before Thanksgiving. He received surgery on Jan. 29 and he is expected to be fully healed in time for the start of his rookie season this fall.
After his injury, Loveland put up 37 catches for 395 yards and three touchdowns in seven games, including a 112-yard effort against Oregon and an 83-yard performance at Illinois. Needless to say, Loveland is one tough SOB and we wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on his NFL journey.
Loveland is the real deal and will have a long NFL career. Not only could Loveland stick around in the pros for a decade, but he also has the potential to be one of the best tight ends in the league. In short, Loveland is an absolute beast and any team would be lucky to have him.
