Sherrone Moore, LaMar Morgan and the Michigan Wolverines just pulled off yet another flip in the 2025 class, convincing in-state four-star defensive back Elijah Dotson to change his commitment from Pitt to Michigan.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is teammates with five-star quarterback target Bryce Underwood at Belleville High School. Dotson earned his offer from Michigan in May 2023 when Steve Clinkscale was still the defensive backs coach in Ann Arbor. Communication dropped off a bit when the new staff was formed, which ultimately led him to making an early commitment to Pitt.
However, Morgan recently picked up communication with Dotson and was able to get him on campus three separate occasions for game days this fall. His most recent trip was an official visit for Michigan’s game against Oregon.
247Sports’ Allen Trieu scouted Dotson earlier this year and wrote this about him:
Has played safety, corner, receiver, return man and some wildcat quarterback in high school. Has above average size and plays physically. Will put his face in the action in run support and will get his hands on receivers if playing man to man. Receiver background helps in his ball skills. Versatile and can play deep in the secondary or come into the box as well as match-up one on one with slots and tight ends. Most likely projection is safety, but it is not out of the question a school could try him as a big corner. Track background speaks to his athleticism and has enough straight line speed to recover and run down plays.
It will be very interesting to see what spot Dotson ends up playing. Based on Trieu’s scouting report, Dotson is a versatile athlete that can play multiple positions in the secondary. Odds are Michigan will bring him in, have him play multiple spots to start off, and then ultimately decide where to stick him at. If I had to guess, I would bet on safety being the position he plays at Michigan, especially considering Ivan Taylor flipped to Alabama earlier this week.
Dotson joins four-stars Shamari Earls (cornerback), Kainoa Winston (safety/nickel) and Jayden Sanders (cornerback) in Michigan’s 2025 secondary.
Dotson is the No. 3 player from the state of Michigan, No. 30 safety and No. 304 overall player in the 2025 class, per the composite. You can find junior season highlights in the video below.
