Smith is ranked as the No. 14 quarterback in the 2025 class by the 247Sports composite , as well as the No. 158 player overall and No. 26 player from the state of Florida. Smith had been committed to the Wolverines for almost a year, declaring his pledge in Nov. 2023.
Smith’s decommitment is a bit of a surprise, but it’s not totally out of left field considering Michigan’s enhanced efforts to land five-star Bryce Underwood. Underwood has been connected to the Wolverines the last few weeks as the early signing day approaches in December, with it being believed that Michigan is preparing a sizable NIL package to gain his services.
Underwood has been committed to LSU since January, so there’s still some obstacles Michigan will have to get over if it hopes to land the star in-state quarterback.
As it currently stands without Smith in the mix, Michigan does not have a quarterback committed to its 2025 class. Michigan does have freshman Jadyn Davis on the roster currently, as well as Brady Hart committed in the class of 2026, as options to be Michigan’s quarterback of the future. That could certainly change if Michigan is able to land Underwood or someone out of the transfer portal this offseason.
