The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder hails from Denton, Texas and was an Alabama commit for six months. However, everything about his recruitment changed after he chose to not sign during the early signing period in December. He was still committed to the Tide up until Jan. 13, when he officially opened things back up.
After his decommitment, Haywood narrowed his focus to three schools — Michigan, Texas Tech and Florida State. He took an official visit to Ann Arbor the weekend of Jan. 17, his first ever time on campus. He had also officially visited Florida State last summer.
A key factor in Haywood’s commitment to Michigan appears to be the revamped approach to NIL. General manager Sean Magee has been heavily focused on a number of recruitments over the last few months, with Haywood’s being no exception. It’s probably not a coincidence that Haywood’s interest in Michigan significantly increased shortly after Bryce Underwood’s commitment.
247Sports’ Gabe Brooks evaluated Haywood this past October and wrote this about him:
Imposing offensive tackle with impressive length relative to height. Long-armed with a huge reach. Gradually improved quickness off the ball throughout junior year and performed well on the elite camp circuit prior to senior season to ascend a loaded 2025 OT board. Owner of an outstanding multi-sport profile that includes elite throws data in the form of double-digit 50-foot-plus shot put reps in Spring 2024, including a 58-6 personal record. Promising athletic testing ledger, particularly in lateral suddenness. Still developing consistent hand placement and technique, but if he gets his hands inside you, you are done. Early senior season revealed some inconsistencies in leverage and footwork activity when engaged, but has put plenty of encouraging reps on tape during high school career. Balance and body control come and go. Sudden power can get him on his heels, but strong enough to recover and anchor in most cases. Possesses the physical traits and athleticism — functional and verified — to play on the outside on either end of the O-line, but might project best to a right tackle role. Certainly could provide roster depth/value at guard as well. Overall, worked his way into the top group of a strong 2025 OL class with the potential to become a high-level college protector with eventual early-round developmental upside.
By the sounds of it, Haywood is a versatile athlete that played multiple sports in high school — something Michigan coaches have come to love over the years — and has position flexibility at the collegiate level. It will be interesting to see whether he sticks at tackle or slides inside whenever he gets on the field.
Michigan now owns the No. 6 overall recruiting class on 247Sports’ composite following Haywood’s commitment. He joins five-star Andrew Babalola, four-star Avery Gach and three-star Kaden Strayhorn along the offensive line for the Wolverines.
Haywood is the No. 10 player from the state of Texas, No. 6 offensive tackle and No. 39 overall player in the 2025 class, according to the composite. You can check out some of his most recent highlights on his Hudl page.
