BOOOOOOM! Michigan has pulled off the unthinkable, flipping 2025 four-star CB Shamari Earls from Georgia. Sherrone Moore and LaMar Morgan aren’t fooling around on the recruiting trail:
Some college football recruitments can be like a wild roller coaster. Sometimes when you get off the ride, it’s something you never want to experience again. Other times, there are so many fun twists and turns that may have caused some nausea, but you can’t help but hop back on.
The Michigan Wolverines just rode one of the most thrilling recruiting roller coasters they’ve been on in a long time. Sherrone Moore, LaMar Morgan and company just pulled off something that in the past would have been completely unimaginable, flipping 2025 four-star top-100 cornerback Shamari Earls from Georgia.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder from Chester, Virginia originally committed to South Carolina back in April. But just three months later, Earls flipped from South Carolina to Georgia following a string of summer visits.
One of those summer trips was to Michigan, where he was able to connect with Moore, Morgan and the rest of the staff in person for the first time. Michigan’s coaching staff did not give up after Earls’ commitment to Georgia, and their persistence was rewarded with Earls’ first visit since the summer for the game against Michigan State .

247Sports’ Andrew Ivins scouted Earls back in the spring and wrote this about him:
Imposing perimeter corner with the ideal blend of size and speed. Has made an impact in all three phases of the game since he was a sophomore in Virginia’s highest classification and has experience working in a variety of different coverages. Creates release disruption from press and does his best to mirror opponents as their routes progress. Alert when forward-facing, and will play through hands to break up passes, but needs to improve overall awareness when his back is turned to the football. Can get across the field with his top gear and prevent touchdowns while in pursuit. Low-tackling style gets the job done, but will only add more value in run support if he can shed with more authority. Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level with legitimate NFL upside. Frame hasn’t been third-party verified, but appears to be over 6-foot. More notably, owns elite markers in both the 55-meter dash and the long jump. Likely will need a developmental year or two to adjust to the collegiate game and refine technique, but could be well worth the wait.
With Will Johnson 99.9 percent likely to declare for the NFL Draft , it was imperative for the Wolverines to land a top-tier player at the cornerback position this offseason, whether it be in the portal or the freshman class. Earls is a guy that can compete for a starting job right away — he’s that good. No hyperbole, but this could be the most important commitment of the class for the Wolverines.
Earls joins four-star cornerback Jayden Sanders, four-star safety/nickel Kainoa Winston and four-star safety Ivan Taylor as defensive backs in the class.
Earls is ranked No. 11 at the cornerback position, No. 2 from the state of Virginia and No. 87 overall on the 247Sports composite. Check out some of his junior season highlights below.
