When arch rivals win a National Championship in consecutive seasons, debates ensue. That’s precisely what’s happening between Michigan and Ohio State fans at the moment, and those debates won’t be ending anytime soon.
Michigan won the National Championship for the 2023 season with a 15-0 record while Ohio State won the 2024 National Championship with a 14-2 record. Earlier this week we asked fans which National Championship team they think is better, and now the results are in.

71% of those surveyed say Michigan is the better National Championship team while just 29% say it is Ohio State. Of course, most respondents were likely Michigan fans, but when evaluating the data, it’s hard to argue with the voting.
2023 Michigan Wolverines
- Overall Record: 15-0
- Big Ten Championship: 26-0 win over Iowa
- Postseason Results: 27-20 win over Alabama in Rose Bowl, 34-13 win over Washington in CFP National Championship
- Result vs Ohio State: 30-24 win at Michigan Stadium
2024 Ohio State Buckeyes
- Overall Record: 14-2
- No Big Ten Championship or Big Ten Championship Game appearance
- Postseason Results: 42-17 win over Tennessee in the first round, 41-21 win over Oregon in Rose Bowl, 28-14 win over Texas in Cotton Bowl, and a 34-23 win over Notre Dame in the CFP National Championship
- Result vs Michigan: 13-10 loss at Ohio Stadium
Ohio State had an incredible postseason run and a National Championship is a National Championship no matter how you slice it or dice it, Michigan’s natty and Ohio State’s count the same. However, Michigan was undefeated and they beat Ohio State during the championship run — Ohio State was not undefeated and didn’t beat the Wolverines during their championship run. These data points should matter when deciding which team was the better of the two overall.
