The Arkansas native landed his offer from Michigan earlier this week from Josh Gattis.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder attends Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He is a speedster not only on the gridiron, but also on his school’s track and field team. As a freshman, he ran 10.8 100-meter, had a high jump of 6-foot-6 and a 24-1.5 long jump.
Those athletic traits likely come from his mother and father. His mom was a sprinter at LSU and competed for Jamaica in the 1992 Olympics. His dad is currently an assistant coach at Arkansas on the track and field team, but he was also a track and field star at LSU.
More and more schools, like Michigan, are beginning to see the potential in Sategna. A day after Michigan offered, so did Texas A&M. South Carolina followed after that. He already held offers from Auburn, Florida State, Penn State, Oregon, USC and more, so his recruitment is nationwide.
For the Michigan side of things, it was offensive coordinator Josh Gattis who extended the offer to Sategna.
“I called him for the first time and he was just telling me how he saw my tape and really liked my play,” Sategna told Maize n Brew of his conversation with Gattis. “I was so excited about (the offer), since Michigan has such a great history with their football program.
“(I think) very highly of (Gattis).”
When Sategna is allowed to take visits, he said he hopes to get to Michigan “as soon as possible.” Other schools in mind he hopes to visit include Arkansas, Florida State, Auburn and Oklahoma State.
Sategna is going to be taking his time with his recruitment, as he said he likely won’t make a commitment until his senior year.
With his father being a track coach at Arkansas, I believe the Razorbacks are the team to beat as of now. Playing both football and track is something Sategna wants to do in college, and the opportunity is there to play for not just his hometown team, but also his father. Of course, things can change in an instant, and Sategna isn’t close to deciding on his future school, but I would deem Arkansas the early leader.
Sategna is the No. 385 overall player on 247Sports’ composite, but 247Sports themselves has him ranked as the No. 175 overall player. There are two crystal balls in for Arkansas.
