The Detroit Lions have done it again.
They continued their dominant season with a thrilling victory over the Green Bay Packers, highlighted by another clutch field goal from Jake Bates. This win featured both individual greatness and an all-around team effort.
With the game coming down to the wire late in the fourth quarter, the Lions executed a perfect play set up by quarterback Jared Goff. Even after being tripped up, he managed to still get the ball into the hands of David Montgomery for a successful first down, setting the stage for Bates.
Even with many defensive players missing, the Lions showcased their depth and won 34-31, extending their win streak to 11 straight games in a row — a new franchise record. They now sit at 12-1 and remain the top seed in the NFC. In a grit-fueled performance, the Lions have officially secured the playoffs.
“It doesn’t matter who we’re playing in front of, it doesn’t matter what’s going on, you always find a way to win,” head coach Dan Campbell said in the locker room following the win .
Finding a way to win is exactly what the Lions keep doing, and it’s becoming more evident after every game. With so many storylines about the win, other highlights included the standout performance from Tim Patrick, who scored not one but two touchdowns after a long absence.
Patrick’s pair of touchdowns was undoubtedly a big deal, marking his first touchdown(s) since the 2021 season. So, his return to the end zone was even sweeter.
Quarterback Jared Goff has been playing at an MVP-caliber level. He completed 75% of his passes in the win over the Packers. Goff has proven his ability to read right through defenses, making quick, on-the-spot decisions to hit his targets. As the ‘Ja-Red Goff’ chants continue, his name is hard not to mention in the NFL MVP conversations.
The Lion’s backfield also has been shining. Running Back Jahmyr Gibbs reached a major milestone, rushing for over 1,000 yards this season — a new accomplishment added to his resume.
Alongside him, veteran David Montgomery brings his powerful running style to the offense. Together, they form one of the most dynamic duos in the NFL. They are now known by the trending, iconic title “Sonic and Knuckles .”
There is a whole lot of excitement surrounding this team. As they continue to make history, they are ready to make a deep run as a Super Bowl-bound team — and they’re doing it with so much style under Campbell.
“We don’t need to talk about being tough, we don’t need to talk about being resilient, we live it, and it’s what we are,” Campbell said. “We just proved it again.”
