SB Nation writers give their Top 10 and nominate performers of the week
Hello everyone. Week 1 of college football is in the books and the season is off to a great start. We already have a couple of nominees for “Play of the Year ”.
This year, the 16 SB Nation sites of the Big Ten (UCLA and USC don’t have their own sites) are going to collaborate to bring you a new weekly feature. After each week concludes, we are going to vote on a national Top Ten and nominate a player for “Player of the Week”. After a few weeks, we are also going to add a ranking of Heisman frontrunners. We thought it would be nice to let you all hear from other writers, not just that of your school, so you can get more of a feel of what the rest of the country is saying. Simple procedure for determining the Top Ten: 10 points for a first-place vote, 9 for second, etc. We hope you enjoy this.
Here is the Top Ten after week 1.
10. USC – 18 points
9. Utah – 21 points
8. Oregon – 36 points
6. Notre Dame – 46 points
6. Ole Miss – 46 points
5. Penn State – 51 points
4. Alabama – 80 points
3. Texas – 95 points
2. Ohio State – 105 points
1. Georgia – 119 points
For Player of the Week, we had a handful of names nominated, but only one player received more than one vote from our panel. We’ll get to him in a moment, but first, here are the honorable mentions (in no particular order): Kyron Hudson – WR, USC; Jaxson Dart – QB, Ole Miss; Miller Moss – QB, USC; Travis Hunter – WR/CB, Colorado; Tetairoa McMillan – WR, Arizona. And now, your Week 1 Player of the Week:
Ashton Jeanty! The running back from Boise State had a monster game against Georgia Southern. His final stat line reads 20 carries for 267 yards and six touchdowns. Congratulations, Mr. Jeanty.
Thanks for reading. Now on to Week 2.
