Former um assistant completes MSU’s coaching staff
How about this, guys? You are getting two articles in the matter of a few hours. Finally, we have news out of East Lansing. It was announced earlier today that Tom Izzo has chosen Saddi Washington for the opening left by Mark Montgomery, who took the head coach job at Detroit Mercy. Obviously, this hire brings up mixed feelings for us Spartans as Washington’s previous employer is a notorious cheater our biggest rival, but I have to remind you that Washington actually comes from a Spartan household. Both his parents and one of his brothers attended Michigan State; his father, Stan, played basketball for the Spartans in the 60’s.
Saddi grew up down the road in Lansing, played at Sexton High School and then at Western Michigan before some international stops as a pro. He has been an assistant coach at the collegiate level for nearly twenty years, getting his first gig under Greg Kampe at Oakland University and then working under Beilein and howard at um. At um, he did work with the front court players, so maybe he can help us in that department and get the most out of Xavier Booker, Carson Cooper, and Jaxon Kohler this year.
Elsewhere on Izzo’s staff, Doug Wojcik has been promoted to Associate Head Coach. Jon Borovich, the former Director of Recruiting Operations, and Austin Thornton, the former player-turned-video coordinator have been made assistant coaches, where they will work with Thomas Kelley and now Washington.
Let’s hear from you. Can Saddi make our roster better?
