What do you think about the recent flurry of headlines on Spartan sports?
Before I get this article started, in case you did not see him mention it at the end of his article yesterday, Brian Goral has signed off from The Only Colors. I want to thank him for all his great work and wish him the best as he enters the post-TOC phase of his life.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.
On Wednesday, it was reported that the MSU football team had received another commitment to its 2026 class. Jeremiah Favorite, a defensive back from South Carolina became the 21st member of this class, and 17th to commit in the month of June. According to 247Sports, Favorite is a 3-star DB. He stands 5’11” tall and weighs 175 pounds. He is rated as CB #105 in the nation. He is also a member of his high school basketball and track teams, which I hope translates into him being an exceptional athlete.
With Favorite’s commitment, the 2026 class now has six defensive backs among the 21 names. And 247 now has MSU as the 26th-ranked class in the nation, and 10th in the Big Ten. That class features a trio of 4-star recruits.
Let’s start of this survey with your feelings about our recent run on the recruiting trail.
Of the 21 players committed to MSU’s 2026 class, only 3 are in-state recruits and only a total of 7 are from the traditional Big Ten territory (3 from Ohio and 1 from Illinois).
In the comments, let us know if there is a recruit you are particularly excited about.
Moving from the gridiron to the hardwood, on Wednesday night, Jase Richardson was selected by the Orlando Magic at pick #25.
Post-draft, there has been plenty of news of undrafted players getting signed to Summer League rosters, though none of the other former Spartans have been signed as of yet
And looking at the guys still back in East Lansing, there have been a couple injury reports. Transfer player Kaleb Glenn will miss the season and redshirt freshman Jesse McCulloch is currently in a walking boot and is expected to be out of action until later in the summer.
I went from Spartan Stadium to the Breslin Center and skipped over Munn Ice Arena. The hockey team has been in the news recently as well. Coach Adam Nightingale recently signed an extension and there have been a number of highly touted prospects who have joined the team for next season. Not to mention, star goaltender Trey Augustine will be back between the pipes. So I have just one question here.
And let’s wrap up this survey with a question on the one guy who ties all of the above together.
