Do you have any recommendations for your TOC brethren?
August is rolling on and we are quickly approaching Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer and the official beginning of the college football season (except for the eight teams who are inexplicably playing on August 24). Aside from the obvious part about getting to watch football, the other thing I like about this time of year is that I stop watching so much bad television. I never used to watch television at all; it was just sports and movies. Then 2020 happened, the world got locked down, I had more time on my hands, and I began binging TV shows. I have not stopped since. But in football season, I do get more selective.
So for this Sunday’s topic of conversation, one of the last Sundays before football, I want to know what shows you all want to recommend. What have you seen recently or are you currently watching that you think the rest of us could enjoy? Conversely, are there any shows you’ve watched that you would suggest others avoid?
For me, I just watched the second season of “House of the Dragon”. While I generally enjoy all things “Game of Thrones” (we don’t need to discuss the original show’s final season), and while I will patiently wait for the third season of HotD (maybe in 2026?), I will concede that season two was not as good as I was hoping for. I liked season one more. Season three better bring it.
Aside from that, I am about to plow through the recently completed fourth season of “The Boys” on Amazon. If you have not watched this show yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a refreshingly original take on the superhero genre, but it is certainly not for your kids. And come November, I can finally watch the last episodes of “Yellowstone”. I have regularly referred to that show as the best thing on television. I can only hope that the creators of the show did not lose their momentum in this extended midseason break in production and that the finale serves the rest of the show justice.
Okay, your turn. What shows are you recommending?
