What do you still want to see? What have you been to that you suggest to other sports fans?
This past Friday, I got to attend the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Detroit’s PGA Tour event. I had never been to a golf tournament before, so this was all new. And as a smaller event, there were no crowds, allowing me to get as close to the action as I wanted to. And it was a cool experience. I had always had attending The Masters on my sports bucket list. That said, I think after attending this event, I will be removing that item.
While I did enjoy the experience, I did not feel like there was anything about being there in person that was superior to watching on TV. First of all, it is a lot of walking. And it is really tough to keep up with the golfers. They walk really fast, they get to go the direct route while the fans have to walk around each hole’s fairways, and the fans often get held up to allow golfers and/or event carts to come through. So if you are at a tee to see them start a hole, you will have a hard time keeping up with them for their next shot. Also, unless you really enjoy the smell of cigars, you will probably learn to hold your breath real fast at the site of the next overweight middle-aged man chomping on a stogie who walks by you.
That’s that. I am removing The Masters from my list. But there are still a bunch of other things I would still like to see, including one event which starts tomorrow in London, England. I am going to go ahead and predict that Carlos Alcaraz wins Wimbledon for the second straight year and for his second consecutive Major.
Here are the remaining items on my Sports Bucket List, in no particular order:
- Basketball game at Madison Square Garden
- Football game at Lambeau Field
- College football game at Clemson
- Florida-Georgia game: World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party
- Kentucky Derby
- Wimbledon match
- Boston Marathon
- Super Bowl (with the Lions)
- Champions League Final
- Olympic Track & Field
- Rucker Park basketball
- Texas high school football game
- Running Of The Bulls in Pamplona, Spain
If you are wondering why there are not more MSU things on here, that is because I had the good fortune of attending the 2000 Final Four in Indianapolis and the 2014 Rose Bowl.
That is my list. Let’s hear from you. What do you still want to go see? What have you done that other people should have on their lists?
