The Flyers 2025 #6 Pick is headed to E.L.
After losing out to PSU for Gavin McKenna and The Ice Man being traded to Edmonton and singing a pro deal, MSU hockey was feeling a bit depressed and sitting with two open roster spots. Well, some good news came in that MSU has signed Porter Martone, Philadelphia’s #6 overall pick in this years draft.
Martone is a forward and we will likely see him in some line shifts with some other notable NHL draft picks such as Cayden Lindstrom, Charlie Stramel, Eric Nilson, and Shane Vansaghi. Martone is known as a playmaker and hopefully he’ll learn his new teammates’ tendencies and be able to create plays for them. Martone is a solid passer and takes advantages of goalies’ and defenders’ expectations. This is all according to the Elite Prospects 2025 NHL Draft Guide. Martone is just 18 years of age and played last year in the OHL with the Brampton Steelheads.
This is solid news for an MSU Hockey team that was feeling low but still has 9 players on the roster drafted in the first two rounds of the NHL Draft and 13 drafted overall. That is still no slouch of a lineup and with the solid coaching MSU brings to the table there is no need to cancel those Frozen Four reservations. The Spartans will still have plenty to offer and should still be among the favorites this season.
How will the final roster slot be filled is the next question. Post your ideas in the comments. Do we need another defender, forward, goalie? My guess is another forward. We shall see in the coming weeks.
