SB Nation writers give their Top 10 and nominate performers of the week
Hey everyone, hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Week 2 of college football saw some casualties to a number of ranked teams. Like last week, the SB Nation writers from the Big Ten schools got together and voted on our version of the Top Ten. To remind you of how voting works, it’s 10 points for a 1st place vote, 9 for a 2nd place vote, etc. Let’s take a look at the rankings after week 2.
10. Penn State – 17 points
9. Utah – 18 points
8. Miami – 19 points
7. USC – 25 points
6. Missouri – 26 points
5. Ole Miss – 53 points
4. Alabama – 59 points
3. Texas – 73 points
2. Ohio State – 81 points
1. Georgia – 88 points
In the 2nd version of the SBN Poll, the top 4 teams remain in the same order, while four other teams from week 1 – Ole Miss, USC, Utah, and Penn State – find themselves in new spots. Notre Dame and Oregon fall out of this week’s poll to make room for Missouri and Miami.
We also voted on the Player of the Week, and just like in week 1, there was only one name who received more than one nomination from our panel. Week 2’s honorable mentions are Xavier Scott – DB, Illinois; Kyle McCord – QB, Syracuse; and “NIU’s Kicker for ruining Notre Dame’s CFP chances”. I guess one panelist was feeling some schadenfreude Saturday afternoon when the Fighting Irish fell to Northern Illinois.
This week’s top individual honor goes to Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. Against Appalachian State, Cade completed 24 of his 26 passes for 378 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also had rushing touchdowns of 2 and 3 yards. He did not play the whole game as it became a blowout. Congratulations, Mr. Klubnik.
We have one more award to give out this week. For the first time in the 2024 season, we are giving out a prize from the comments section.
TOC recognizes Spartan Tom for his wonderful use of a GIF in calling out writer Steve for his pessimistic prediction. Though we need to appreciate that Steve owned it in the opening of his piece about the Maryland game. Congrats, Spartan Tom, you are this week’s “Reader of the Week”!
