The Green Bay Packers‘ number one priority at this moment in time will be to advance in the playoffs after heading to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears on Saturday night.
But, if the Packers lose that game, change could be coming. Head coach, Matt LaFleur’s job could be in jeopardy if the team fails to win a playoff game for the second year running. And now with the addition of John Harbaugh to the list of top head coaching candidates, the pressure to succeed in the offseason will be ever higher.
The Packers will also have the possibility that defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley, could be on the moving, with the Tennessee Titans having already put in a request to interview him.
However, one change that could end up being more impactful than many realize is the potential loss of one of the highest ranking members of the executive – Vice President of Player Personnel, Jon-Eric Sullivan.
Packers Senior Exec A Finalist For GM Role
Sullivan has been touted as a potential general manager candidate for an external franchise for the past couple of years, and interviewed with the Titans, Raiders and Jets back in 2025 for their GM openings.
Now, it seems like the South Carolina native, who has spent over 20 years with Green Bay, is closer than ever to leaving, as Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that he is one of four finalists for the general manager job in Miami.
“After completing their initial round of GM interviews,” Adam Schefter posted
on X, the night before the dismissal of Miami’s general manager, Mike McDaniel, “the Dolphins will have in-person interviews this week with:
ðChad Alexander, Chargers
Assistant GM
ðChamp Kelly, Dolphins Interim GM
ðJon-Eric Sullivan, Packers VP of Player Personnel
ðJosh Williams, 49ers Director, Scouting and Football Operations”
What Is The Likelihood Green Bay Loses Jon-Eric Sullivan?
At this point, 1/4 feels about as good as odds as any.
Some have pointed out a link between Chad Alexander, the current Chargers assistant GM, and a potential move for John Harbaugh – who is widely considered to be the most coveted head coaching candidate on the market since being fired by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week.
Alexander was previously a long-time executive with the Ravens, working closely with both GM, Eric DaCosta and Harbaugh, before moving to Los Angeles where he has been working alongside John’s brother, Jim.
But Harbaugh’s ascendancy to the Dolphins job is no done-deal. The Super Bowl champion has explicitly declined to do any head coaching interviews until next week, where there could be openings for losing playoffs teams – possibly including Green Bay.
Sullivan is still very much in the mix, and considering how well he is thought of around the league, and the stability of the organization he currently heads, it would not be shocking to see him leave for another franchise.
It would also not be vehemently surprising if, conditional on the Packers losing, Green Bay suddenly have a general manager position open up. A vacancy that Sullivan would undoubtedly be one of the favorites to fill.
