Outrage Pours in Over Final DJ Moore Play in Bears Playoff Loss

January 18, 2026 by Heavy

The Chicago Bears’ magical season came to an end in Sunday’s 20-17 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The turning point of the game came when Caleb Williams threw his third interception of the night, with Rams safety Kam Curl giving Los Angeles the ball back at their 22-yard line.

However, people were quick to react to that play, specifically when it came to wide receiver DJ Moore.

Outrage Pours in Over DJ Moore’s Actions in Final Play

During the replay, it appeared that Moore lacked effort from the start, which led to Curl intercepting the ball.

“You can’t blame Caleb Williams for the INT in OT… the Bears have the absolute perfect play called. The lack of effort by #2 is really telling…you can’t give up on this route like this.” @ChaseDaniel

“This angle makes DJ Moore look even worse. He didn’t even give up on his route at a certain point, it was zero effort the entire route. Really trying to rap my head around this one” @SMHighlights1

“The last shot of DJ Moore in a Bears uni is probably going to be him running a lazy route to cost them a playoff game.” @MichaelGus57

After the game, Williams said there was “miscommunication” between him and Moore. He also added that he wanted to “flatten” it between DJ and the safety, but Moore ended up going over the top of the defender.

NBC broadcaster Cris Collinsworth gave his thoughts on the play, saying, “I’m not sure that DJ Moore ever got his head turned around, ever had any idea they might throw him the ball. And for whatever reason, you have to assume it’s coming to you…You’ve got to look back at the quarterback, but the ball is already in air. Kam Curl is breaking on it and DJ Moore just never did.”

Has Moore Played His Last Game in a Bears’ Uniform?

Moore, 28, is under contract through the 2029 season. He signed a four-year, $110 million deal with the Bears back in 2024 and is set to have a $24.5 million cap hit next year.

The only way he won’t be back with the Bears next season is if the team decides to cut him, which is highly unlikely, or if Chicago trades him to another team.

NFL insider Albert Breer touched on the possibility of the Bears trading Moore back on December 31st, and here’s what he had to say:

“Moore is due $24.5 million in cash for next year. He turns 29 in April. In today’s market, that’s not bad for a complementary receiver who, to be fair, has had a down year statistically with 49 catches for 671 yards and six touchdowns. To me, the comfort level of a young quarterback is paramount, and Moore’s certainly a factor in that.”

Breer has a point. Despite being a good receiver, Moore hasn’t been on par with Williams this season from a chemistry standpoint.

However, people also can’t deny all the amazing moments Moore has been an integral part of, including that spectacular catch in overtime to beat the Green Bay Packers 22-16.
