Perkins, a sophomore out of Detroit, and graduate of University of Detroit Jesuit High School, helped guide Michigan State to consecutive wins for the first time this season. MSU held its two opponents to just one goal combined.
Perkins notched his first career goal against Wisconsin as the Spartans raced out to a 4-1 victory over the Badgers. Then against Ohio State, he provided the assist that led to Michigan State’s game-winning goal in the 1-0 road victory.
Perkins’ earned his first Big Ten Player of the Week honors of his career, Michigan State’s first of the season, and also MSU’s first defensive player to earn the honor since Patrick Nielsen was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 9, 2018. Last season, junior forward Farai Mutatu was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1, 2019.
The Spartans, having earned the No. 6 seed in the Big Ten Tournament , will take on Michigan this Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m. EDT in the quarterfinals.
