Happy Tuesday, TOC Nation. We have another collection of portal commitments to report to you.
Ladies first. The Michigan State Women’s Basketball Team has received its third portal addition of the offseason in Canadian born Marah Dykstra. Dykstra played for the Montana State Bobcats for three seasons and has been a starter for the past two seasons. Last year, she averaged 12.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 2.1 APG. She shoots 46.9%, 35.8 on 3s, and 82.6 on FTs.
She also will be remembered for this highlight in Montana State history which sent her team to the NCAA Tournament this past season:
Marah should provide MSU with more frontcourt depth next year and be a part of the regular rotation.
Moving to the gridiron, Jonathan Smith added some more players to the roster. Starting with a defensive line addition, Jack Lamancusa is heading to East Lansing. Originally from Rockford High School in the Grand Rapids area and then playing at DIII Hope College, Lamancusa will try to crack the DE depth chart. He will start as a walk-on but will have a chance to earn a scholarship.
In addition to Lamancusa, MSU also picked up a pair of players in the defensive backfield. Anthony Pinnace is coming from the JUCO ranks where he was a JUCO All-American at Independence Community College. He then played at Iowa Western Community College last season and was on the roster at Texas-San Antonio this spring.
Tracy Revels, the other recent add, comes to MSU from Bowling Green, so he at least has DI experience. Last year, he played in all 12 games, starting 7, and had 40 tackles and 1 PBU.
Lastly, MSU is getting one new player on the offensive side in Kai Rios. Rios is a tight end who played for Indiana State the last three years. I was unaware the Sycamores had football program. Rios is 6’6” and 260 pounds, so he is certainly a large target for Aidan Chiles. That said, last year he only had 7 receptions for 61 yards and 1 TD. Maybe the issue is that Larry Bird’s alma mater did not have a quarterback capable of getting Rios more catchable passes, but either way I will hold my excitement until I see if he can contribute at the Big Ten level.
